Delores Ann Schmidt

Delores Ann Schmidt was born August 26, 1941 to W P and Tillie (Friesen) Schmidt and was called home to be with the Lord at age 77 on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Schowalter Villa Nursing Home in Hesston, Kansas. Delores grew up on a farm southwest of Weatherford, Oklahoma. As a young child she spoke no English only Low German. She attended school in Weatherford through her 8th grade year. Delores enjoyed her 9th through 12th grade high school years attending Corn Bible Academy. She attended nursing school for 1 year, in Clinton, Oklahoma. She married her soulmate Milton A. Schmidt on March 24, 1961. They were blessed with two children: Connie Marcene and Roger LeWayne. She worked along side her husband on a farm outside of Corn, Oklahoma raising her family. She worked at Clinton Regional Hospital where she was able to use her nursing school knowledge. After raising her children Delores and her husband moved to Garden City, Kansas. There she worked for a short time as a paraeducator at Holcomb elementary school. She soon obtained her CDL license and joined her husband with his long haul trucking business where they drove as a team and enjoyed traveling the country working alongside one another. Delores made the decision to follow the Lord at a young age. She attended and was active in the Mennonite churches of Weatherford, Bethany, Cordell, and Corn, Oklahoma as well as in Garden City, Kansas. She was drawn to music and enjoyed singing and playing the autoharp. She was a natural and played piano by ear. She and her sister, Janie, sang several times for their father on his radio program and nursing home programs. Delores also loved to garden, can vegetables and make sandplum jelly in the summer. She had a love for pansies, butterflies and especially all her pet cats through the years. Delores was preceded in death by both parents and her loving husband Milton. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Estep of Moundridge, Kansas; and her son, Roger Schmidt and wife Susan of Cheney, Washington; five grandchildren, Ashley Bennett and husband Colin of Spokane, Washington; Whittney Graham and husband Jason of Colton, Washington; Tyler Schmidt of Cheney, Washington; Chelsea Estep of Winnemucca; Nevada and Morgan Estep of Arlington, Kansas; nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, Clara, Lucy, and Ruby Bennett; Felicity, Nikolette, Weston and Lincoln Graham and many other family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 10am Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church in Corn, Oklahoma, officiated by Pastors Tim Sandy and Ken Gardner. Burial will conclude in the Corn Mennonite cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, Clinton, Oklahoma.
