Ray Steveson Crowl

"Bud" Ray Steveson Crowl passed away Monday, April 7,2014 at home with his family. Services will be Friday, April 11, 2014 at 10:00am at the First Christian Church officiated by Doyle Kinney and Jeff McDowell, and burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Bud was born on July 26, 1925 in Butler, Oklahoma to Karl E. and Rosie E. Crowl. He attended the country school in Bulter. He spent much of his youth helping on the family farm picking cotton and pulling broom corn. Bud met his future wife, Jo, at the Vicksburg Country Church. They had a few dates before he was inducted into the Army in 1945. Bud served in World War II with the occupational forces in Korea. After his discharge in 1947, Bud returned to Clinton and went to work for Littke's Hatchery and Produce. Bud married the love of his life, Arlee Jo Morris, on February 16, 1947. Shortly after their marriage, Bud was hired by Midwest Farmers Coop as their Manager. They also hired Jo as a bookkeeper. Soon after they were hired, Bud and Jo went to Cameron College to take the equivalent of 4 semesters of accounting classes. He also attended college courses in Enid to learn more credit, general and petroleum management. All this training served Bud well in his 38 year career at Midwest Farmers. It also gave him the thirst to earn more about a variety of things. He would find something he was interested in and read everything he could to learn more about it. Bud was a Boy Scoutmaster for at least several years, working with both the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts. He was involved in scouting off and on from the time his oldest son Kenny was in Boy Scouts until his oldest great grandson Bradon was in Scouts. Bud was a great role model for all kids. Each of his grandkids and great grandkids have very special memories of him and how much his love has impacted their lives. They love their Grandpa and will miss him vey much. Bud honorably served on the Custer County Excise Board for numerous years. Bud enjoyed many things in life like drinking coffee with good friends, volunteering at the Route 66 Museum in Clinton,and studying his Bible. But there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with the family he loved so much. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Buster and Ralph Crowl; sister, Ethel Gossman; son, Steve Crowl; and wife of 64 years, Jo Crowl. Bud is survived by son, Kenneth R. Crowl, of Enid; daughter, Karin L. Snider and her husband Donald W. Snider, of Clinton; grandchildren, Cindy Crowl, Brad Snider and wife Crystal, Chad Crowl and fiancée Holly Shearon, Jared Snider and wife Amber, Justin Snider and wife Dawnel; great grandchildren, Bryce Crowl, Bradon and Bryson Snider, Jordyn And Conner Snider; Chloe Jo Crowl; sisters and bothers, Nadine Hooker, LaVonna Hayes, Shirley Merkey, Christina Glasscock, Lena Packard, L. D. Crowl, Olin Crowl, and Linda Ousley; and sister-in-law, Bea and husband Don Speilman. Bud is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as special friends: Pat and Virgil Smith, Debbie Newman, Amy Kelley, and longtime friend Doyle Kinney and wife Terri. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Blakeburn, the Western Oklahoma Hospice, and Judy and Billy Hayes for their wonderful care, as well, as all those who sent cards and prayers.
