Funeral Services for Archie G. Fl;aming, 88, Corn resident will be held 2:00 P. .M., Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in the North Side Church of Christ in Cordell, OK, officiated by Kenneth Jones. Burial will follow in the Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Archie Gene Flaming was the second son born to Otto and Marianna (Penner) Flaming on June 20, 1928. on the River Farm which was two miles north and two mile east of Cloud Chief, Oklahoma He passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the Corn Heritage Village in Corn, OK. He was raised in Cloud Chief and walked two miles each way to attended Grandview School where he learned to speak English because his parents used Plautdietsch (Low German) in the home. He had many good times during the summer in the big swimming hole on the Washita River. In 1938 they moved to the Sunnyside Farm located two and half miles north and one east of Cloud Chief. Archie started the 8th grade at the Com Public School where he enjoyed sports. He graduated from Com High School in 1946. In September he developed a high fever and was hospitalized with Rheumatic Fever. It took him six months to recover. He enjoyed going on wheat harvest with Henry Penner and Walt Krewall. He was drafted in the Army in 1950 and proudly served his country in Whittier, Alaska during the Korean War. He married Marie Weese April 17,1953 at Carlsbad, NM. They established a home in Cordell, OK. He worked on a Seismograph crew and snapped cotton until he went to work in 1955 with his Uncle Art Penner as a mason, laying brick and block. He continued in that profession for 20 years. During those years he enjoyed participating on a bowling league. Also he was an avid fisherman and spent many vacations on the White River at Bullshoals, AR. In 1975 he retired from laying brick and went into farming with his brother, Bert. His wife of 34 years, Marie, past away on Archie's birthday June 20,1987. He married his first wife's cousin, Lois (Stoiy) Smith on Oct. 9,1987. One year after their marriage his wife's health started deteriorating. He devoted his time until her death in 2009 caring for her. Since her death, he has traveled extensively making trips to all the Western States, including Alaska twice. In 2011, at the age of 83, he started having coffee with a beautiful lady, Velma Hoock, from Com, OK. This relationship blossomed into a loving companionship for both of them. They would go out to lunch at the Colony CafS and shop at Walmart together. In 2014 because of declining health, Archie sold his home in Cordell and moved into an apartment at the Com Heritage Village. Soon Velma also moved to an apartment at CHV where they enjoyed spending time together until Velma's death in 2015. He has been a long time member of the North Side Church of Christ, Cordell, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto S. and Marianna (Penner) Flaming, his first wife, Marie (Weese) Flaming, and second wife, Lois (Story) Flaming. He is survived by his step-son: Don and wife Kathy Smith, Norman, OK: Step- granddaughter, Cherri and husband, Wayne Atkins, Double Oak, TX: two Step-great granddaughters: two Brothers: Emery and wife Leota Flaming, Moore, OK and G. Bert and wife Judy Flaming, Com, OK, and many nieces and nephews.
