Bessiemae "Betty" Mahan

A Chapel Service for Betty Mahan, 85, Clinton resident will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2014 in the Chapel of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home, Officiated by Buck Nicholson. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley Lee Funeral Home, Clinton. Bessiemae "Betty" (Skaggs) Mahan was born on November 17, 1928 in Cordell, OK to Albert Edward and Mary Josephine (Smith) Skaggs and passed away early Wednesday morning, October 29, 2014 in the St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma city, OK. She was raised and attended school in Lawton. She was married to Herbert "Sleepy" Mahan, on January 1, 1950 in Dallas, TX. She was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in this area for a number of years as well as working with her husband in "Sleepy's Bakery" in Clinton and Branson, MO. She always good for a smile and had something good to say to everyone. Her passion were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she loved trips to Branson, MO; she also enjoyed watching on stage productions at Southwest Playhouse and she was a member of the Clinton AARP. Survivors include a son, Tony "Sleep" Mahan and his fiancé, Carla Smith, and a sister, Violet McClanahan, of Bessie. She is also survived by four grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, three sons: Richard, Steve and Kenneth, both of her parents, Albert and Mary Skaggs, two sisters, Viola Hodge and Patsy Pulus, and one brother, Albert Skaggs.
