Bige Murphy

Bige Murphy Jr., 87, resident of Dill City, Oklahoma was born on May 28, 1925, in Eufaula, Oklahoma to Bige and Maude (Barnes) Murphy. He passed away Friday, February 1, 2013, at Integris Baptist Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held for Bige (Junior) Murphy, Jr. on February 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Grace Baptist Church, Dill City, Oklahoma, with Reverend Jimmie Prickett officiating. Burial followed in Lawnview Cemetery, Cordell, Oklahoma, under the direction of Lee Stanley Funeral Home, Clinton Oklahoma. At age three, his family moved to Foss, Oklahoma where he continued to help out on the farm and lived until graduating from Burns Flat High School. Bige, (Junior) as most people called him, joined the United States Army January, 1955. He was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was discharged in 1962. Junior spent the remainder of his life farming and fishing in the Burns Flat Dill City area until moving to the Cordell Christian Home, where he lived the last few years. He enjoyed attending church services there every Sunday. He especially liked Bingo at the home, and he even planted a garden there every spring to provide some vegetables for the home. He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed camping, watching baseball, old westerns, and lots of fishing. Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Bige and Maude Murphy, five sisters, Ellie Beck, Ruth Thurman, Mary Black, Hazel Mosier, Belle Black. One brother, Virgil Murphy, and nephews Michael E. Black, Billy Black, Badger Black, and one niece Janet Bartel. Survivors include one sister, Essie Hendrix of The Village, Cordell Oklahoma, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews who all dearly loved him.
