Chapel Service for Billy Joe Lister, 91, Clinton resident will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 27, 2021 in the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Jessie Musick. A Private Burial will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Billy Joe Lister was born February 4, 1930 to Robert and Carrie (Fredrick) Lister in Dover, Oklahoma and passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 in the Meadow Lake Estates Nursing Home in OKC, OK. He was raised and started school in Clinton. Somewhere after the second grade he was forced to work and help provide for the family. He was a self taught man and was thought of as the “Arm Chair Psychologist.” He helped many people solve problems and claimed to be the president of the “Tree of Knowledge” in his area. He worked hard doing about any kind of labor including hauling hay, chopping and pulling cotton, trimming trees and scrapping iron. He proclaimed to be an Indian Agent in his younger years. He was married to Dorothy Jean Henderson and later Bernice Scurlock. He was affectionately and well known as “Uncle Billy Joe” or “Daddy Joe”. He played dominoes with his buddy’s and could be seen out in his yard most days playing and giving advice. He was preceded in death by both of his wives, parents, two sons, James Lister and Robert Lister and four sisters, Myrtle Thompson, Bertha Evans, Leora Bell and Bernice Grayson. He is survived by two daughters, Carrie Calip and husband, Willie, OKC, and Doris Washington, Iowa; son Billy Joe Lister, Jr., Clinton, OK and two sisters, Jewell McBrayer, Clinton and Dot Hays, El Reno, OK . He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
