Funeral Services for Carl Shepherd, 97, Custer County farmer/rancher, will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 8, 2022, in the Clinton Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Daniel Mosburg, Charles Murphy and Odie Nunley. Burial will follow in the Butler Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
Carl Edmond Shepherd was born October 25, 1924, to Cleve and Mattie (Spencer) Shepherd southwest of Butler, OK which is now part of Foss, Lake and he passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in the Corn Heritage Village in Corn, OK.
Carl was raised on a farm east of Butler where he attended Womble School. He was the oldest surviving son in the family and started working and helping on his father's farm and ranch at a young age. He married Fernita “Fern” Jessie Wright on January 6, 1946, in Butler, OK. They bought The Jay Maker farm and continued working with his father and brothers with the farming operation.
He has been a longtime and faithful member of the Freewill Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He enjoyed traveling, playing dominoes and fishing. He was active in his community and served on the Arapaho School Board.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Jim Shepherd, Dorothy Goodall, Lorene Paris, Essie Roush, R.B. Shepherd and Maxine Adams. He was also preceded by several brothers and sisters in law who he loved very much.
He is survived by his wife, Fern, of 76 years, in the Corn Heritage Village in Corn, OK, son, Carl Lyn Shepherd and wife, Mary Jo, Edmond, OK, two daughters, Susan Diel and husband, Tom, Morrison, OK and DeAnn Staggs, and husband, Ron, Owasso, OK: two brothers, Clarence “Sandy” Shepherd and wife, Pauline, and Roy Shepherd, all of Clinton.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kerry Knisley and husband, Jason, Casey Shepherd and wife Jayna, Shawn Diel and wife, Shawna, Amber Johnston and husband, Patrick, Cash Diel and wife, Andrea, Monte Kelley and wife, Heather, Sean Staggs and wife, Keri, Paul Staggs and wife Jennifer and Zac Lindley and wife, Adria; 25 great-grandchildren, Grayson, Addison, Niai, Caedmon, Rylan, Liam, Peter, Karsan, Gunnar, Aaron, Aiden, Wyatt, Ethan, Maddox, Jamal, Corbin, Taryn, Sage, Jacob, Hunter, Kalyssa, Avonlea, Piper, Tucker and Ellie.
