Funeral Services for Steven Howlingwater, 25, Thomas resident will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 20, 2013 in the First Assembly of God Church in Thomas, OK, officiated by Gerald Panana, Lawrence Hart and Craig Hart and burial will follow in the Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas, OK under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. A Traditional Wake Service will be held 7:00P.M. Till 9:00 P.M Friday, July 19, 2013 in the Clinton’s Cheyenne/Arapaho Community Hall. The Hall is the First Building West of the Lucky Star Casino. Charles Steven “Chief in the Sky” Howlingwater also known as “Pete” was born August 26, 1987 to Charles Dean and Delores Ann (Youngbear) Howlingwater in Thomas, OK and passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 near Thomas, OK. Steven was raised in Thomas, Oklahoma and graduated from Thomas High School in 2006. He was a Thomas Terrier and was on the 2004/2005 High School State Football Championship team. He had many friends in the Thomas Community and was always proud to call Thomas his home. He was a proud member of the Cheyenne/Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. He was initiated into the Bowstring Clan at the age of 11 at the Concho Sundance Grounds by his Uncle Cheevers Heap of Birds. He participated and was active in the Cheyenne Sundance’s since 2005. He started and completed four years in the Sundance and looked forward to participate each year. He joined his father and they prayed at the Holy Mountain in Bear Butte, South Dakota. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was born into a Cheyenne Chief’s family and in the Cheyenne Society this is a high honor but also is a very tough road to follow. He was expected to place all his people before himself. Steven had a well-mannered way and always helped others in a time of need or when ask. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James “High Chief” Howlingwater, his maternal grandparents, Herman and Jessie (All Runner) Youngbear, his paternal great-grandmother Mollie Curtis-Whitebird; his maternal great-grandparents, Jacob and Sage Woman All Runner. He is also preceded in death by his infant sister, Keesha. He is survived by his parents, a sister, Alicia Aispuro and her husband, Alfonso, and a niece, Avery and a nephew, Vincent and his paternal grandmother Marie Whiteman, all of Thomas.
