Funeral Services for Christine Starr, 89, lifelong Hammon resident, will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, May 24, 2021 in the A.G. Creach Hammon School Auditorium, officiated by Pastors Gerald Panana and Pastor David Flick. Burial will follow in the Hammon Indian Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. There will be an all night wake service starting 7:00 P.M., Sunday, May 23, 2021 in the Hammon Indian Community Building. Christine (Fingernail) Starr was born December 21, 1931 to Pete Fingernail and Martha (Swallow) in the Whiteshield Camp north of Hammon, OK and passed away in her Hammon residence Monday, May 17, 2021. Christine has lived a lifetime in Hammon. She attended and graduated from Hammon High School in 1951. She married Frank “Toby” Starr” on August 28, 1951. She has been a homemaker and stay at home mom and grandmother. She was honored “Elder of the Year for 2013” and was the oldest tribal member in Hammon, OK until the present. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Leann Starr, sister, Nadine Orange, Carol Joyce Bullcoming, Tonita Sankey and a brother Martin Fingernail. She was a member of the Indian Baptist Church and the Native American Church. She was a proud member of the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. She was traditional and enjoyed going to tribal events and gathering; she attended benefit dances, going to pow wows and doing beadwork for her grandchildren and going to B INGO. She is survived by five daughters, Charlene Threlkeld, Hammon, Joyce Starr, Hammon, Marietha Starr, Elk City, OK, Sharon Starr, Hammon and Barbara Starr-Sage, Elk City, OK; son, Thurman Starr, Hammon; sisters, Louise White Eagle, Hammon, Francis Big Back, Busby, MT, Gloria St. Clair, Ft. Washakie, WY, Flora Amos, Ethete, WY. She is also survived by numerous adopted children and nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of other families.
