Funeral services for Mr. Darrell Coit, age 94, a lifelong resident of Custer County, will begin at 10:00am Monday, April 24, 2023 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, 2500 West Modelle Avenue in Clinton, Oklahoma with Rev. Carol Waters and Doyle Kinney officiating. Burial will conclude in the Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas, Oklahoma under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.

Visitation for Darrell will be from 9:00am to 8:00pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023 and from 12 noon to 8:pm on Sunday, April 23, 2023. The family will greet friends on Sunday afternoon from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. All the visitation will take place at the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.

Darrell Leon Coit was born September 29, 1928 in Clinton, Oklahoma the son of Lyle Franklin Coit, Sr. and Erma Ruth Hook. He was raised in the Independence, Oklahoma area and graduated Salutatorian from Clinton High School in 1946. He then enlisted into active duty on October 4, 1946 serving in the United States Army. After a tour of duty in Inchon, Korea Darrell was honorably discharged on March 25, 1948.

After returning home from active duty, Darrell attended two years of college at Phillips University in Enid and Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. Darrell was united in marriage to Miss Barbara Ann Cobb on November 26, 1949 in the First Christian Church of Clinton, Oklahoma. Darrell and Barbara raised three children together, Stephen, Richard and Nancy. After living in Clinton all their life the family moved to the farm in Custer City, Oklahoma in 1963 where they grew and expanded their farming and ranching enterprise. The Coit family was an admired farming family and was awarded the prestigious Oklahoma Farm Bureau Family of the Year. Not long afterwards, Barbara’s health began failing and she passed away on May 13, 1984.

Darrell later married Mrs. Betty Burtis Babione on February 15, 1986. They made their life together on the farm in Custer City and enjoyed many wonderful years together before her death on December 28, 2006.

Darrell has been an active member of the First Christian Church of Clinton, the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton, the Independence United Methodist Church of Custer City and was currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elk City, Oklahoma.

Darrell served on the Union Equity Cooperative Board in Enid, Oklahoma and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two sons: Stephen Coit and his wife, D’Etta of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Richard Coit and his wife, Talitha of Custer City, Oklahoma; his daughter, Nancy Shepherd and her husband, David of Butler, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren: Richard Lyle Coit, Jr., Megan Coit, McKensey Coit, Keelan Coit, Nathan Coit, Cameron Coit, Patrick Coit, Erica Coit, Brandon Shepherd and Robert Shepherd; 9 great grandchildren: Christian Boyett, Kylie Coit, Presley Rae Coit, Parker Cayden Orr, Harper Grace Coit, Madeline Rose Coit, Mattison Karoline Shepherd, Chaley Durelle Shepherd and Cheridan Danae Shepherd; two great-great grandchildren Atley Ann Boyett and Rykin Boyett; and a host of additional family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Barbara and his wife, Betty, Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Melissa Durelle Shepherd on July 12, 1993; one brother, Lyle Franklin Coit Jr. on November 4, 2005 and one sister, Naomi Ruth (Coit) Davenport on July 20, 2020.
