Funeral Services for Don Sappington,81, Clinton banker and farmer, will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in the First United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Rick Robart. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Donald Blake Sappington was born January 17, 1938 to Thomas Edgar Sappington and Elsie Lee (Cooper) Sappington in Elk City, Oklahoma and passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 in the Iris Memory Care Center in Edmond, OK. Donald was raised in Arapaho, OK and graduated from Arapaho High School in 1956. He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma graduating with a degree in history in 1961. He was married to Sally Lowry on June 28, 1959 in Clinton. They made their first home in Weatherford until Don graduated from College. They moved to Holyoke, CO where Don taught history and coached basketball. After a short time he moved back to Western Oklahoma and taught school and coached in Weatherford. He soon joined Oklahoma Bank and Trust and served as Executive Vice President for over 35 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member of the Jaycees and the Kiwanis as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Bank and Trust; he is a member of the Oklahoma Hereford Association; he was on the Route 66 Museum Board for several years and the Arapaho School Board. Don loved raising and riding horses and at the age of 59 he started roping competively and won numerous awards, saddles and belt buckles. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Sally, of the home, daughter, Nancy Courtney and husband, Gary, Ponca City, OK and son Blake Sappington and wife, Tana, Clinton, brother in law, G.W. Lowry, Jr. and wife, Cheryl, Clinton. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Madison Bosworth, Winfield, KS, Jacob Bosworth, Winfield, KS and Taya Sappington, Stillwater, OK and Tack Sappington, Clinton, OK and a niece Lacy Lowry-Engum and husband, Jessie, Portland, OR and nephew, Wheeler Lowry and wife, Jenne, Clinton. The family has suggested those wanting to give a memorial contribution may do so to Oklahoma Medical Research for Alzheimer's or to Clinton's First United Methodist Church.
