A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Doug I. Fransen, 72, Clinton resident and local farmer, will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 4, 2012 in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiated by Father Rex Arnold and burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Douglas Isaac Fransen, was born July 13, 1940 to Isaac and Ruth Owen Fransen in Clinton, Oklahoma. He attended school in Clinton, graduating in 1958, and furthered his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in biology and chemistry. He married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Hatcher, on July 5, 1960. Following college, Doug farmed his land near Corn, OK, while working full-time for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation as a lab technician and processor of contractor payments. After his father’s death in 1980, he assumed the responsibilities of managing Fransen Farms. He continued in that capacity until his death, although recently his role became more of a senior advisor, due to his physical health problems. He enjoyed farming, raising livestock and being a good steward of the land. He appreciated the outdoors that his God had provided and participated in outdoor sports and travel with his wife and family. He dearly loved his family and greatly enjoyed celebrating occasions with them at the family home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Ruth Fransen and by his grandson, Kevin Fransen. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elaine, and by his four children: Diane Smith-Bauer and her husband, Curt, Scott Fransen and his wife, Anita; Brenda Price; and Cheryl Gregg. His grandchildren include Mindy Smith, Ryan Fransen, Kaci Fransen, Nicolas Gregg and Claire Gregg. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Webb and her husband, Dwight, mother-in-law Lucille Hatcher and by in-laws Carol Walters; Sam Hatcher and his wife, Katherine; Steve Hatcher and his wife, Jean; Izzy Bracken and her husband, Doug; Ginny Rivera and her husband, Bob; and Chris Neher and her husband, Ron. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6 pm at Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Funeral services will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton at 10 am, Thursday, October 4, 2012. Burial will follow in the Arapaho Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or to St Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund would be greatly appreciated.
