Funeral Services for Edith Bissonette, 76 will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday February 24, 2017 at Hammon School Auditorium , officiated by Rev. Gerald Panana. Burial will conclude in the Hammon Indian Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau- Lee Funeral Home. A traditional all night wake service will be held starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Hammon Indian Community Building in Hammon, OK. Edith Bissonette was born July 13, 1940 in Hammon, OK to Roy Whiteman and Myra (Wolfchief) Whiteman and passed away Sunday February 19, 2017 at her Hammon home. Edith was raised in Hammon and she attended both Watonga and Hammon schools. She continued her education and attended Bethel College. She began her working career with Indian Health Services in both Hammon and Watonga. She moved to Denver, Colorado and worked for the IBM Company, then Bureau of Indian Affairs in Bismarck, ND and she also made her homes in Towaco, CO. She settled back in Oklahoma in 1980 where she was employed with the Clinton Veterans Center and worked in the Dietary department. She was married to Richard Wayne Whiteman on January 17, 1978 in Colorado. She was a proud member of the Cheyenne Tribes of Oklahoma ;she was a member of the Mennonite Church; her favorite hobby and past time was playing Bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Janie Badback, son, Gerald Whiteman, five brothers, Darwin Whiteman,Sr., Jerry Whiteman, Milton Whiteman, and Randy Whiteman and an infant brother, Chester Whiteman and two sisters, Phyllis Whiteman and Maryetta Whiteman. She is survived by her husband, Wayne of the home, daughter, Vina Bissonette, Clinton, three sons, Dennis Whiteman and wife, Teri, Artesia, NM, Harry Kihega and Eddie Kihega, both of New Mexico. She si also survived by numerous grandchildren and other family members.
