Funeral Services for Edwin L. Pewo, 67, Hammon resident will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 9, 2021 in the Hammon Indian Community Building, officiated by Pastors Mitch Walking Elk and Jo Ann Swallow. Burial will conclude in the Hammon Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. A traditional all night wake service will be held starting 7:00 P.M., Thursday, July 8, 2021 in the Hammon Indian Community Building. Edwin Leslie “Black Hawk” Pewo was born January 16, 1954 to Edwin Pewo and Irene Goose in Dallas, Texas and passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 in the River Valley Nursing Home in Clinton, OK. Edwin was raised in the Hammon Community and attended his schooling in Hammon, Concho and Fort Sill, OK. He was married to Susie Cross and he was employed with the Cheyenne/Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. He was a proud member of the Cheyenne/Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma; he was a member of the Native American Church; he was an artist and enjoyed drawing; he loved music and playing the guitar and he did beadwork. He is preceded in death by father the late Peace Chief Edwin Pewo, his mother Irene Goose; wife, Susie; son, Cheyenne Pewo; two sisters, Evelyn Gayle Highwalker and Johnnie Sue Greeley. He is survived by his step-mother, Margie Ann Pewo; three daughters, Melinda Goose, Arapaho, Sonya Howling Buffalo, Clinton and Nicole Racelis, Clinton; two sons, Hiram Howling Buffalo, Clinton and Brian Richard Pewo, of Ohio ; four sisters, Virginia Pewo and husband, Boyd Williams, Elk City, OK, Edwina Bullcoming and husband, Wilbur, Hammon, OK, Pollie Goodman and husband, John, of Minnesota and Kim Kauley, of Colorado; brothers, Richard Pewo, Bennie Highwalker, Wisconsin, Tyrone Pewo and wife, Loris, Hammon,Kenneth Pewo, Hammon, Kenneth Pewo of Hammon, OK, Melvin Miles of El Reno, OK, and Nathan Standingwater of Hammon,Ok. He is also survived by his good friend and brother, Mitch Walking Elk of Minnesota, and numerous grandchildren.
