Funeral Services for Essie A Hendrix, 85, Washita County resident will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 10, 2013 in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Burns Flat, OK, officiated by the Rev. Duawn Mearns. Burial will conclude in the Lawn View Cemetery in Cordell, OK under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Essie Ailene (Murphy) Hendrix was born October 12, 1927 to Bige M. and Maud Dell (Barnes) Murphy in Eufaula, Oklahoma and passed away Monday, October 7, 2013 in the Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton, Oklahoma. Essie was raised in the Foss and Dill City area and graduated as Salutatorian from Burns Flat High School in 1945. She married Mr. Harold Victor Hendrix on November 26, 1947 in Burns Flat. They made their first home in Hobart, Oklahoma where they started farming. They soon moved back to Washita, County settling in Burns Flat where they purchased the family farm. She worked hard on the farm being a farmer's wife, caring on the household duties as well as being a full time mother. She later worked in Clinton as an inspector for the Kellwood Factory. She retired from the Burns Flat Post Office after 25 years of service in 1990. Mr. Hendrix preceded her in death in 2004. She was an active and faithful member of the Burns Flat Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in Choir. She enjoyed doing needle work, crocheting, working in her garden and was a wonderful cook and was well known for her homemade breads and pies. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Ellie Beck, Hazel Mosier, Ruth Thurman, Mary Black, Ida Belle Black, and two brothers, Virgil Murphy and Bige Murphy, Jr. She was survived by two daughters, Judy Tuck and husband, George of Dill City, OK and Lynette Hendrix, of Oklahoma City, OK; six grandchildren. CSM Jeremiah Raemhild, U.S. Army and wife, Amanda of Fayette Ville , NC, Heidi Oliver and husband, Zach, of Yukon, OK, Emily Tuck, Burns Flat, OK, Kristen Tuck, of Oklahoma City, OK, Candice Tuck, of Oklahoma City, OK and Tiffany Tuck, of Midland, TX. She is also survived by 7 great- grandchildren, Skyler Raemhild, Caleb Raemhild, Kailey Oliver, Kelsey Oliver, Kinsey Oliver, Ember Black and Latham Black and a host of nieces and nephews.
