Funeral Services for Evelyn Shephard, 82 Arapaho resident, will be held 2:00P.M.Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in the Clinton’s First United Methodist Church, officiated by Dean Brookshier and Sandy Shepherd and burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Evelyn (Huebert) Shephard was born September 6, 1930, the third child to Henry K. and Lillie A. (Flaming) Huebert on the family farm south of Corn, Oklahoma and she passed away very unexpectedly at the Weatherford Hospital Emergency Room on Saturday, February 2, 2013. She attended several rural public schools in Washita County and graduated from Corn High School in 1948. That same year and on her 18th birthday she started nursing school at the Western Oklahoma Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from Nursing School in 1951 with her Registered Nursing Degree. She soon met and married Mr. Murray Doyle Shephard on September 17th, 1951. They made their home on the farm west of Arapaho in the Barnitz Creek area. She taught her five children the importance and meaning of “Family, Commitment and Faith”. She loved having family get-togethers, holiday events and spending vacations with her family and friends. Evelyn believed in the inherent good of people and did not give up on those who had given up on themselves. Her wonderful example by her faith in God and how it sustained her through life was passed on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served as a Registered Nurse in the Clinton and Thomas areas for over 58 years. She touched numerous lives by being dedicated and compassionate in her nursing ministry. She loving serving others and did so volunteering at the Brush Ranch Camp in New Mexico, numerous boy-scout camps, she even served in Guatemala with “Faith in Practice”. She was a faithful and active member of the United Methodist Church in Arapaho; several organizations including the Custer County Historical Society, the Red Hatters, and a member of the Sunnyside Home Extension Women’s Club for over 50 years. She spent numerous hours watching the wild life from her front window on the farm, visiting with friends and family as well as going to the Country Jamboree. She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Doyle Shepherd, her parents, and infant brother, Floyd, brother Lee Henry; father and mother in law, Robert and Livonia Shephard and a son in law, Mike Morris. She is survived by her sister, Loree Schlicting and brother, Lonnie Huebert, both of Corn, OK and a sister in law Delilah Lamar, Enid, OK, daughters, Charlotte Stidham and husband, Neal, Houston, TX, Sandra Rutherford and husband, Jay, Georetown, TX, Beth Whitledge and husband, Eddie, Carter, OK, sons, Charles Shephard and wife, Annie, Arapaho, OK and Robert Warren “Bobby” Shephard, Sayre, OK. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brian Stidham and wife, Erica, Houston, TX, Cassandra Rutherford-Peschel and husband, Josh Peschel, Champaign, IL, Vince Morris and wife Ashley, Sayre, OK, Jayson Rutherford and wife, Christy, Weatherford, TX, Amanda Hall and husband, Max, Sanford, NC, Isac Shephard, Laura Shephard, and Brad Shephard, all of Arapaho, OK and five great-grandchildren, Brea and Brooke Stidham, Britain Rutherford, Parker and Phenyx Morris. The family will greet guest 6:00 P.M, till 7:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
