Funeral Services for Elaine Winters, 78, former Clinton resident will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 22, 2014 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Doug Lewis an burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Laverne, Oklahoma under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, OK. Faith Elaine Winters was born July 10, 1935 to Clark Oscar Hicks and Myrtle Gertrude (Washburn) Hicks in Laverne, Oklahoma and passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 in the Midland Care Center in Topeka, KS. Elaine was raised in Laverne, Oklahoma and graduated from Laverne High school in 1953. She continued her education at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond and received her Bachelor's degree in Allied Health and received her Registered Nurses Degree andthen completed her education at Oklahoma University with a Master's Degree in Adult Education. She married John C. Winters on January 6, 1956 in Midwest City, OK and they made their first home in Del City, Oklahoma. They moved to Western Oklahoma in 1963 where she was employed at Clinton Regional Hospital as a Registered Nurse. In 1972 she accepted a position at the Western Oklahoma Technology School in Burns Flat in the Nursing School. She taught the Nursing School for almost 20 years and while there she received the "Teacher of the Year" award for Oklahoma Health Occupations Education Association. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and numerous professional organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sister, Viola Hornsby, Nellie Baker, Olive Hicks and a brother, Carl Hicks. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Winters Ackmann, of Topeka, KS a sister, Irene Moody, of Pauls Valley, OK. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Jeremy Tull and wife, Patty, and Candace Brown, and four great-grandchildren, Austin Tull, Aiyana Brown, Kalee Baldwin and Karen Hubbard.
