Burial will conclude in the Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, OK under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Glen Dale Smith was born April 25, 1929 at Weatherford, Ok the son of Ray and Alice(Smith) Smith and passed away Friday evening July 15, 2016 at the Clinton Alliance Health Hospital in Clinton. He was surrounded by his wife, LaNell and nephew Cowboy Steven Dale Brown and wife Cathy. He attended Gyp Hill School and Weatherford High School. After high school he began working for Howard Kappel until he was inducted into the US Army on Dec 4, 1950. Following basic training he was stationed in Germany for the duration of his military service at which time he returned to Weatherford. He married LaNell Brown, who survives, on Jan. 17, 1953 and took up housekeeping in Clinton where he worked for the city of Clinton Water Dept. In 1972 they moved to Bessie and remained there until present. They spent 63 years of married life together. They had their good times and bad but weathered through them all to become a model to everyone of what marriage is. Glen was not complete without LaNell by his side. Her presence always gave Glen comfort and it was that way until the end. Glen also worked for Cliff Dotson as a plumber's assistant and later drove for LeeWay Freight Lines. Glen also worked for Bruce Merrill and Milton Koch in construction, and later went into business with Bruce until health problems forced Glen into early retirement. He was baptized June 7, 1981 by Rev Tom Bishop. He was a member of the Bessie Baptist Church. He surely did love his Lord and his church. He knew his Lord well and was looking forward to his next life with Christ. Glen always owned horses from the time he was a small child. He was very knowledgeable about their care and training. People would seek out Glen's advice regularly. Early in their marriage LaNell chuckled as she remembers that she was only making $24 a week but Glen bought a horse for $500. His nephew, Steven, remembers going to his Uncle Glen to see about a horse because "That man knows horses" he states. Glen did his own Ferrier work until his health prevented it. He rode daily until a stroke prevented that at the age of 81 yrs old but about a year ago he did manage to get his horse Snips saddled and got on the horse that he raised from a colt, one last time. He enjoyed many years of trail riding in Colorado with lifetime friends. For many years Glen and LaNell traveled to Colorado for trailing riding camping and fishing. They spent many years enjoying God's creation and sharing great times. They also travelled to Robert's Cave and Lake Eufaula for trail riding and camping. Glen is survived by a brother Harold (Barbara) Smith of Clinton and his nieces and nephews: Jan (Scott) Armstrong of Clinton, Linda Smith, Cathy (Bob) Chissum, Nita Smith, Kay (Keith) Woods, Gary (Nina) McLemore, Bruce McLemore and Larry (Tammy) McLemore of Weatherford, Jimmy (Elaine) Smith of Amarillo, TX., Karen Jo (Rex) Elkins of McAllister, Allan(Susan) McLemore, Carolyn(Jr.) Sombrano of Hydro, Terry McLemore of El Reno, Cory (Erin) McLemore of Lookeeba, Todd Reynolds of Pennsylvania, Roy (Deborah) Rich of Monahans, TX, Donna (Tom) Wyatt of Richmond, TX., Melva (Roger) Ripley of Dallas, TX, Diane Frasier of Christoval, TX., Teresa Brown of Anchorage, Alaska and a special nephew Cowboy Steven Dale (Kathy) Brown of Maplewood, Ohio.
