Funeral Services for G.W. Wright, 91, lifelong Butler resident will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 27, 2014 in the Butler Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Troy Manley. Burial will conclude in the Butler Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Grover Walton Wright was born September 21, 1923 to Jesse Oklahoma Wright and Byna Evelyn (McCain) Wright in Butler, Oklahoma and passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in the Clinton Veterans Center in Clinton, OK. Mr. Wright was raised in Butler where he graduated from high school in 1942. He married Elsie Regina Baker on December 24, 1924 in Arapaho, Oklahoma and they made their home in Butler. He soon enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 21, 1944. He served during WWII and was honorably discharged on June 11, 1946. He returned back to Butler, OK where he and his wife farmed. He started a highway construction career for a time. In about 1970/71 he was employed with Custer County working on bridges and roads. He retired after 30 years in 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Leroy "Curley" Wright and a sister, Bonnie Lou Wright. He is the oldest Charter Member of the Butler Baptist church, he has served as Sunday School superintendent as well as acting Deacon for over 45 years. He enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren and he liked to cook. He is survived by three daughters, Lana Isaak and husband, A.J., of Clinton, Linda Ray and husband, William. Of Custer city, and Connie Boelen and husband, Gary, of Cyril, OK; a sister, Fern Shepherd and husband, Carl, of Arapaho. He is also survived by five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
