Funerals Services for Huston "Hoot" Parkhurst, 88, Arapaho will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 23, 2015 in the Clinton Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Charles Murphy. Burial will conclude in the Butler Cemetery with military honors under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Huston Eugene Parkhurst was born in Custer City, Oklahoma on June 14, 1927 to Melvin Eugene and Nellie Elizabeth (Haggard) Parkhurst and passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 in the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. He has one sister, Joan Louise, who is seven years younger. He attended a small country school called Elm through third grade and then finished school in Arapaho, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 20, 1945 and served overseas and was discharged on March 6, 1947 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. When he returned he attended one semester at A&M College in Stillwater, then transferred to Southwestern State College at Weatherford where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in History with a minor in Spanish and Public Speaking in May of 1952. He was owner and operator of Hoot's Dairy Boy until 1965 and met Patricia Pearl Hubbart there; Hoot's mom encouraged the match and they were married on April 21, 1961. After selling the Dairy Boy, Huston sold Allstate Insurance and Farmers Insurance, he also was a feed and seed salesman for Moorman's Manufacturing for a number of years and a rural mail carrier for Arapaho. He was a volunteer fireman for 20 years, belonged to the Arapaho Chamber of Commerce, Arapaho School Board of Education, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Arapaho Fireman's Pension Board, American Legion and the Arapaho Alumni Association. He was a Little League Baseball coach and Cub Master for the Cub Scouts for a number of years. He enjoyed bartering, raising thoroughbreds and gardening. Huston is survived by his wife Patricia Parkhurst of the home, his three children, Clendon Parkhurst and his wife Mary Lynn of Elk City, Terra Martin and her husband Charles of Owasso, Chad Parkhurst and his wife Tonia of Elk City, seven grandchildren, Erika Breedlove and her husband Cache of Edmond, Ryan Perez of Edmond, Bryan Perez and his wife Amber of Elk City, Grayson Parkhurst of Elk City, Garret Parkhurst of Norman, Leah Parkhurst of Elk City and Cade Parkhurst of Clinton, three great-grandchildren, Crue and Hayes Breedlove of Edmond and Zander Perez of Elk City and his sister Joan Reinard of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family has suggested those wanting to give a memorial contribution may do so to the Arapaho Volunteer Fire Department
