Irene Standingwater

Funeral Services for Irene Standingwater, 71, Elk City resident will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 30, 2016 in the Cheyenne/Arapaho Community Center east of Clinton officiated by Rev. Delfred "Bunny" Whitecrow. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. A all night wake service will be held 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 29,2016 in the Indian Baptist Church, 1822 Dunn Street in Clinton, officiated by Rev. Gerald Panana and Rev. Delfred "Bunny" Whitecrow. Irene Phyllis Whiteturtle Standingwater was born June 11,1945 to Harry Flynn and Anosta Whiteturtle and was raised by her mother and step father, Claude Fletcher. She passed away unexpectedly in her Elk City home on Friday, June 24,2016. Mrs. Standingwater was raised in Clinton attending Clinton schools. She also attended chilocco Indain school where she graduated in 1963. She attended a business college in Oklahoma City and Bacone School in Muskogee, OK, Sayre Junior College, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and she attended Licensed Practical Nursing School in the Burns Flat Technical School. She has worked in Nursing Homes most of her adult life. She was married to Leland Roy Standingwater on November 10,1978 in Weatherford, OK and they had made their homes in Hammon and Elk City. She is a member of the Indian Baptist Church and the Native American Church. She was preceded in death by her biological father and mother as well as her step father, Claude Fletcher; brothers, Rufus Whiteturtle, Ralph Fletcher, Claude Fletcher, Jr., Terry Fletcher, and sister, Susie Thunder Bull and a great granddaughter, Ashleigh Rodriquez. She is survived by her husband, Leland Roy, Hammon, OK, a daughter, Minerva Rodriguez, and husband, Manuel, Elk City, OK, two sisters, Arleen Kauley, Hammon and Chloe Orange, Elk City. She is also survived by four grandchildren Luis Rodriguez, Manuel Allen Rodriguez, Jr., Erika Rodriguez and Kristal Rodriguez and 13 great-grandchildren.
