Funeral Services for James Shelton, Sr., 79, Clinton resident will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 9, 2021, in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, officiated by Bowman Vowell and Dale Nease. Burial will follow in the Parkersburg Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. James Edward Shelton was born May 5, 1942, the first born of Vernard “Son” Shelton and Sarah (Kauk) Shelton in Butler, OK, and passed away Monday, December 6, 2021, in the Oklahoma University Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. James was raised in Butler, OK, and graduated from Butler High School in 1960. While in high school, he was active in FFA. He married Toni Jo Meacham, September 19, 1963, in Clinton. They made their home in Clinton for a short time and soon moved to Butler, OK, where they lived for the next 28 years. James spent many years farming; he also drove the Butler School bus because of his love of being with his children and the students. He served 10 years on the school board. He worked at the school as custodian until he moved to Clinton in 1992. He became a jailer for the Custer County Sheriff’s Office where he retired. In 1998 life changed for James when his bride of 35 years, Toni, preceded him in death. He met another wonderful lady, Shirley Norman, and they married on July 17, 1999, in Clinton. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Toni, sister, Judy Moore, great granddaughter, Elyse Shelton and his parents. He was a member the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and besides being on the school board he was a member of the ASCS Committee Member. He was an avid sports fan; he loved to fish and hunt, especially quail, watch the Western Channels, and most of all spend time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home, two daughters, Cindy Goossen and husband, Todd, and Meg Hook and husband, Terry, all of Clinton, OK, son, Jim Shelton and wife, Debra, Geary, OK; two bonus daughters, Lori Luck, Dodson, TX, and Leah Stewart, Cordell, OK, brother, Sam Shelton and wife DeAnne, Butler, OK, and brother-in-law George Moore, Butler, Ok. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren and two on the way.
