Funeral Services for James Leroy Wilks, 69, Clinton resident, will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 5, 2012 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel officiated by Rev. Bob Stewart and Chaplain Dan Day and burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. James Leroy Wilks was born December 9, 1942 to Carroll Roy and Willie Agnes (Russell) Wilks in Hobart, Oklahoma and passed away early Thursday, November 01, 2012 in the Emergency Room at the Clinton Regional Hospital. Mr. Wilks was raised in Mountain Park and the Snyder, OK areas and he attended most of his schooling in Mountain Park and graduated from Snyder High School in 1960. He soon moved to Oklahoma City and attended Draughn’s Business College. He began a career with Wilson Packing Company as well as working as night auditor for several Oklahoma City Motels. He was married to Mavis Stevens on June 3, 1966 in Oklahoma City. They moved to Clinton where he was employed at the Kellwood Factory and then Collins and Aikman where he retired but later worked for Doan’s Pet Care, serving all as Maintenance Supervisor. In the 1980’s he owned and operated Leroy’s Sporting Goods in Clinton and he also worked for Shamburg’s Sporting Goods as a Gunsmith and retired in March of 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, and an infant daughter, Susan Lynn. He was an avid outdoors man and loved to fish, hunt and campout. He enjoyed tinkering and making things including knives and guns, he was a great talker and conversationalist. His passion was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mavis, of the home. A daughter, Rhonda Holden and husband, Brian, Cordell and two sons, R. Jay Wilks and his partner, Keith Johnston, Eureka Springs, AR and Brent Allen Wilks and his fiancée Jamie Combs, Dallas, TX, Three sisters, Wanda Scott and husband, Darrel, OKC, Louise Starcher and husband, Burton, Amarillo, TX and Jeannie DeYong and husband, Gary, and a brother Eddie Wilks, all of FL. He is also survived by two grandchildren, James Joseph Holden and Karista Mae Holden, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
