Jerry Duwayne Waltrip

July 17, 1942 — February 15, 2015

A funeral service for Jerry Waltrip, 72, Arapaho farmer and resident will be held 10:00 Thursday, February 19, 2015 in the First Christian Church officiated by Jeff McDowell and Randy Meacham. Burial will conclude the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Jerry Duwayne Waltrip was born July 17, 1942 to Dwayne "Trigger" Waltrip and Verna Pearl (Parr) Waltrip in Clinton, OK and passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 in the Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. Jerry was raised in Arapaho where he graduated from high school in 1960. He continued his education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. He started his farming and Ranching career at a young age and had continued until his death. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard, serving from 1960 until 1966. He drove the Arapaho School Bus from 1961 until 1971. He also worked for the Cotton Gin from 1965 until the present. He was married to Jacqui Mann in 1965 in Clinton and they made their home in Arapaho. Jacqui preceded him death in 2000. He was later married to Sharla Parks-Spencer on August 18, 2001 in Clinton. They have continued to make their home in Arapaho. He was an active and faithful member of the First Christian Church, he was a member of the New Generations Sunday School Class, he served on Midwest Farmers Coop Board and the Custer County Coop Board, he served on the Custer County Farm Bureau Board; he had received his pilot's license and flew all over western Oklahoma; and he enjoyed being a apart of the Monday Morning Prayer Breakfast Group as well as being a part of the many of the men's coffee groups. He was also preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents, Walter and Hester Lee Waltrip, maternal grandparents, Otto and pearl Parr. He is survived by his wife, Sharla of the home, daughter, Yvette Johnson and husband, James, of Arapaho OK, step daughters, Shannon Merwin and husband, Mitchel, of OKC, OK and Jennifer McCammond and husband, Joey, of Newalla, OK and a brother Denver Waltrip and wife, Carolyn, of Arapaho. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Renee Griffin and husband, Daniel, Jonathon Johnson, Jacky Johnson Connor McCammond and Abigail McCammond and one great-grandchild, Ben Griffin. The family has suggested those wanting to give a memorial contribution may do so to the Arapaho School Alumni Association or the Clinton Mission House for the homeless.
