Jewell Lavigne

Jewell LaVigne, age 97,former resident of Clinton, OK passed away on December 26, 2018 at Golden Years Homestead in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born in Arapaho Sept. 27, 1921 to Sam and Bessie Dunnagan. She graduated from Arapaho HS and attended business school in Oklahoma City. She lived in the Arapaho and Clinton area most of her life. Jewell worked at the Chamber of Commerce for many years and then worked and retired from the Oklahoma State Home Extension office. She was the chairperson of the Custer County Fairgrounds Improvement Committee in 1984 - 1985. She provided the leadership to make the Patrick Center a reality. She was also named Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women's Club in 1980. She was known by many for her wonderful pies and her cooking ability. She loved cooking a large supper and having her friends over. She had won many blue ribbons at the county fair for her baking, sewing, canning and crafts. She was a member of Friendly Neighbors home maker club for nearly 30 years. She was a member of Custer Avenue Baptist Church of Clinton. Surviving Jewell is her daughter, Phyllis Burns, of New Haven, IN, grandchildren Craig Burns (Luz) of Clinton, Brian Burns of New Haven, IN and Sandie McLaren (Andrew) of Westfield, IN, great-grandsons Nathan and Aaron Burns of New Haven, Connor and Alec McLaren of Westfield, great-granddaughter Amanda Burns of Fort Wayne, IN, great-great-grandson Drayke Reining of Fort Wayne, and step-daughter Barbara Haywood of China Grove, NC. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in-laws and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbert LaVigne, brother Ted Dunnagan, sister Lela Johnson, her "favorite son-in-law" Arthur Burns and step-son Robert LaVigne.. The funeral will be held at Kiesau-Lee Chapel of Clinton on 10:00 A.M.,January 5, 2019 with reverand Ross Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Arapaho cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Avenue Church, 220 N. 17th, Clinton or Friends for Life Animal Society, PO Box 1965, Weatherford, OK 73096.
