Funeral Services for Jim Hughes, 83, lifelong Custer County resident will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in the Custer Ave. Church of Christ, officiated by Patrick Peters. A private burial in the Stafford Cemetery will be held prior to the funeral service under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. The family will greet guests at the funeral home 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M., Monday, July 23, 2018. Jimmie Ray Hughes was born November 26, 1934 to Ralph Raymond Hughes and Lillie May (Higgins) Hughes in Butler, Oklahoma and passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 in his rural Arapaho home. Jim was raised in the Butler area and attended schools in Arapaho and graduated from Stafford High School in 1953. He married Carmileta Kenney on June 20, 1953 in Butler, OK. They made their first home in Clinton where he worked at a gas station and later moved to the Foss Lake area and farmed. He also owned and operated a Goodyear Tire Company in Clinton and worked for the Oklahoma State Highway Department. They have made their home northeast of Arapaho for the last several years. He was a faithful and longtime member of the Church of Christ where he has served in numerous areas. He served first as deacon for several years, taught many classes, and then served as an elder for many years. He loved the outdoors, he built a 9 hole golf course on his home property and maintained it, he loved to fish and hunt; he was a major sports fan and an avid Oklahoma University fan; he enjoyed doing all kinds of woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Eugene Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Carmileta of the home, three daughters, Amy Cudd and husband James, Hinton, Oklahoma, Barbara Walker and husband, Mike, Kennedale, Texas and Katie Rayner and husband, Kevin, Edmond, Oklahoma; two sisters, Shirley Johnson, Weatherford, Oklahoma and Virginia Lowell, Yukon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jared Cudd and wife, Kristin, Arapaho, Oklahoma, Julie Webb and husband Jason, Kennedale, Texas, Jon Walker, Kennedale, Texas, Dustin Rayner and wife Quinn, Guthrie, Oklahoma, Patrick Rayner and wife, Daniella, Edmond, Oklahoma; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way, Traber, Channing and Daxon Cudd, Reagan and McKinley Webb, Hudson, Norah and Wren Rayner and Isabella Rayner and (Cooper Rayner on the way).
