Funeral Services for Joe L. Cabaniss, Jr., 91, Life long Custer County resident will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 5, 2013 in the First Christian Church, officiated by Doyle Kinney and burial will follow in the Cabaniss Family Cemetery Northwest of Clinton under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Joe Lonnie Cabaniss, Jr., was born October 21, 1921 to Joe L. and Ocie (Jones) Cabaniss in Clinton, Oklahoma and passed away early Monday, April 01, 2013 in the Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. Joe was raised in the Clinton and Stafford areas and graduated from Stafford School in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S Army Air Force in August of 1942. Serving during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned back to Clinton to help his parents on the family farm. He also worked with the WPA on the Government Project to help build the river bridge going east of Clinton near Essary Ville. He married Betty Lou Cobb on July 17, 1948 in Wheeler, TX. They have made their home on the family farm their entire married life which is Northwest of Clinton. They specialized their farming career raising and breeding show quality sheep and have earned the title of the #1 Hampshire Sheep breeder in the United States. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Doyle Cabaniss, and four sisters Dorothy Shepherd, Pansy Sparks, Delores Parkinson and Winona Trout; a grandson, Clay Cabaniss, great-granddaughter, Aubrie Owston and a daughter in law, Pam Cabaniss. He is a member of the First Christian Church; the American Hampshire Sheep Association, A Master Breeder with the Oklahoma State University and because of his contribution of expertise and time he is an Honorary Member with the State 4H Club and Future Farmers of America. He spent many years serving on the Custer County Fair Board and was instrumental in organizing the Oklahoma Western Stock Show. He is survived by his wife, Betty Cabaniss, of the home, two daughters, Susan Bradford and husband, Jerry, Russell, OK and Mary Lou Scales, Clinton and three sons, Norman Cabaniss, Riley Joe Cabaniss, both of Clinton and Harve Cabaniss and wife, Karen, Arapaho and a brother, Dale Cabaniss, Clinton and several cousins including Mary Helen Jones, Clinton.. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The family will greet guest 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the funeral home.
