Graveside services for J. Marvin Smith, 77, Custer City resident was held 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 19, 2020 in the Custer City Masonic Cemetery in Custer City OK, officiated by Mark Haney and under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. John Marvin Smith was born April 2, 1943 to John William Smith and Martha Alice (Harris) Smith on the family farm near Custer City, OK and passed away Monday, June 15, 2020 in the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Marvin was raised on the family farm and attended Custer City Schools graduating in 1961. He continued his education at the Sayre Jr. College and then transferred to Panhandle State College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education. He taught Social Studies, Science and coached at Jr. High and High School in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. He has also been employed with Ace Lumber in Clinton and Leedey. He married Nancy Mae Smith on October 20, 1972 in Iola, Kansas. He loved playing baseball and in his younger years he played American Legion Ball and was thought to be one of the few people that hit a baseball from the American Legion Home Plate into the Swimming pool. He went on to play Semi Pro Baseball for the Liberal Bee Jay’s in Liberal, KS. He enjoyed collecting and messing with antiques. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Margie Jean Smith. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home, two sons, John Smith, Jr., and wife, Bambi, Elk City and Travis Wayne Smith, Carlyle, KS; two sisters, Dorothy Carol Clifton and husband Clyde, of N.C. and Betty Malke and husband, Dale, of Wisconsin. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Keysha Smith.
