K.D. Kappel

February 22, 1925 — January 10, 2018

Funeral services have been set for K.D. Kappel of Clinton, 92, for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Clinton, with Doyle Kinney and Willie Coop officiating, and under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery. K.D. was born February 22, 1925 on a farm NW of Custer City, In the Vicksburg Community, to Charles and Ethel Kappel, and passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Cordell. He later moved to a farm 4 miles west of Custer City, to the Arapaho School District, graduating Arapaho High School in 1943. K.D. was drafted into the Army in December 1944, taking his basic training at Fort Riley Kansas. He was sent to the to the Philippines, and later to the occupation forces in Japan. After WWII ended, he was honorably discharged, November 1946. K.D.'s mother passed away when he was 8 years old, his dad remarried 2 years later, and K.D. gained a wonderful step mother and step sister. On December 27, 1946 K.D. married Betty Lou Kelley, daughter of Francis and Ethel Kelley. In July of 1947 K.D. went to work for Clinton Lumber Company. In July of 1949, he was transferred to Canute to manage Canute Lumber Company. In July of 1958, he was transferred back to Clinton to manage Clinton Lumber Company. He semi-retired in 1987 but continued working part-time helping inventory all the Company's lumber yards until fully retiring in 1995. He had worked for that company 48 ½ years and considered it a great place to work. Preceding him in death was his wife, Betty, of almost 64 years, his parents, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Joyce of Broken Arrow, Ok., Roxann Morris and husband, Mark, of Cordell, Ok., sister-In-Law Leola Cork of Tulsa, Ok., three grandchildren: Tiffany Watson and husband Jayson of Mtn, View, Ok., Kelly Dawn Tilley and husband, Josh, of Cordell, OK, grandson Sam Derrick Maddox and wife, Nikki, of Cordell, Ok., six great grandchildren: Kaylie Maddox, Talon Tilley, Madi Lynn and Levi Maddox, Alexzander and Alexis Lou Watson. K.D. loved to play Golf, wood working and flying airplanes. He obtained his private pilots license in 1947. K.D.'s favorite saying: "I'm glad you got to see me." : favorite passage of scripture: Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen" The many outstanding qualities of K.D. were: a 69 year member of the American Legion; a life time member of the V.F.W. oldest and longest member of the First Christian Church of Clinton, Ok.; member of the Kiwanis Club: served on the Golf board for several years and served as president on the Chamber of C ommerce Borad. In lieu of flowers please make Memoral Contributions in honor of K.D. to the Christisn Women's Fellowship, First Christian Church, Clinton, Ok. or Cordell Christian Church for Generator Fund.
