A Chapel service for Lavona McLaughlin, 90, former Clinton resident will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. James Prebble and burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery under the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Lavona Othin (Neece) Mclaughlin was born July 13, 1922 to Earnest and Gertrude (Mitcher) Neece in Burns Flat, OK and passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013 in Norman, OK. Lavona was born at home during the days when home deliveries were common. The doctors came to the house to birth the babies and then would be paid with chickens and eggs. She grew up in Burns Flat attended school in Burns Flat. She farmed, drove tractors and chopped cotton, and these were just some of the stories she would share with her grandchildren. She was married to Ernard McLaughlin at the young age of 16, on November 11, 1938. The young couple made their home five and ½ miles south of Butler, OK and her tractor and chopping cotton experience came in handy. The Foss Dam project was started and the farm they lived on was covered with water and they moved into Clinton in 1959. She worked at the old Oklahoma General and the Clinton Regional Hospital for over 20 years. She was recognized as employee of the month with the statement, “Lavona has the God given ability to make a patient feel better when she walks into the room. She is always kind and reassuring.” She always witnessed God to all her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Frank Neece and a sister, Lola Belle Pruitt, two grandchildren, Lynda Ross and Mark Anderson. She is survived by a daughter, Naomi Jewel Anderson, Moore, OK and a son, Herschel Dwayne McLaughlin, Mustang, OK. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Robert Anderson and wife, Trina, Haslet, TX and Ryan McLaughlin, Mustang, OK; five great-grandchildren, Seth, Stephen, Brook, Mark and Nathan and four great-great-grandchildren.
