Leah Gail Johnson

Funeral Services for Leah Gail Johnson, 17 years old, who disappeared on April 30, 1970, declared missing on November 20, 1970 and her remains were discovered on September 17, 2013in Foss Lake, will be held 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 7, 2014 in Creech Auditorium in Hammon, OK. Services will be officiated by Rev. Mona Bear Shield and burial will conclude in the Bethel Indian Mennonite Cemetery in Hammon under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. There will be a Traditional All Night Wake Service starting at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, November 6, 2014 in Hammon Indian Community Hall. Leah Gail Johnson was born August 15, 1952 to Theodore Clyde Johnson and Nellie White Skunk Johnson in Clinton, Oklahoma and passed away on or near April 30, 1970 in the Foss Lake near Foss, OK. She would have been 61 years old when her remains were found. Miss Johnson was raised in the Hammon area but had moved to Sayre, Oklahoma with her parents. She was attending High School at Sayre and would have graduated with the 1970 graduating class. She was an outstanding basketball player and she was a competitive Native American Indian Dancer and had traveled extensively competing. She had earned her way to compete at the 1968 World's Fair. She was a member of the Bethel Indian Mennonite church. She was survived by her parents, Clyde and Nellie Johnson, now deceased and four brothers, Darrell Johnson, Clyde Johnson, Jr., (both now deceased) Christopher Johnson and Wendell Johnson, both of Geary, OK and two sisters , Glenda Marie Johnson (now deceased) and Eva Johnson Beach, of Geary, OK. She was also survived by a maternal grandmother, Rena Dakota, now deceased.
