Funeral Services for Leon Scarlett, 75, Clinton resident, will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in the Church of Christ at 2601 Custer Ave. Clinton, OK, officiated by Patrick Peters. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Leon Scarlett was born August 9, 1945 to George W. Scarlett and Annie Mae (Harris) Scarlett in Somerville, TX and passed away early Saturday Morning, February 6, 2021 in the Oklahoma Heart Hospital North in Oklahoma City, OK Mr. Scarlett was born and raised in Somerville, Texas and then moved to Houston, Texas at a young age, when he became a member of the United States Army. He remained in the army from 1963 and head an honorable discharge with a rank of E6 as a Motor Transport Specialist in 1966. While in the Army, Leon received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and became a US Army marksman. In 1966, Mr. Scarlett moved to Clinton Oklahoma where he was first employed at the Clinton Tuberculosis Sanatorium. He was a truck driver, he also worked for Dolese Cement Company for several years and served as a firefighter and while intermittently driving the ambulance for Sherman Air Force Base. In 1997, Mr. Leon was swooped off his feet when he married his beloved wife Doris (DJ), who was his life partner until his death. Mr. Scarlett most recently was employed at Clinton Public Schools in the maintenance department and was a well-respected bus driver. He demonstrated many other talents, such as building and construction, “handy man”, and took pride in helping others. Mr. Scarlett enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, listening to gospel music, and ultimately playing dominos. He was an avid dog lover who raised and breed his dogs for years. Leon was loved by many and enjoyed laughing with his children and interacting with his grandchildren including those who rode his bus. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Georgia Taylor, Mary Wright, Bessie Winston, five brothers, Roy Scarlett, Lester Jordan, Sylvester Jordan, Carl Jordan and C.W. Winston. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris, of Clinton, Oklahoma, his daughters, Mary Scarlett, Anchorage, AK, Lillie Jordan, Mangum, OK, Rhonda Scarlett-Tucker (Caesar), San Antonio, TX, Gwendolen Murphy, OKC, OK and Felicia Scarlett Richie (Veto), El Reno, OK; sons, Michael Scarlett (Susan), Albuquerque, NM, Leon Scarlett, Jr., Houston, TX, Stacy Scarlett and wife Cassandra, Thomas, Ronald Harper, Jr. (Blayne), El Reno, OK, Michael and Eric Harper, of Clinton, Oklahoma He is also survived by 44 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, his best friends Esco Abrams and David Collins, and a host of other dear friends, nieces and nephews and co-workers.
