Lester "Dale" Cabaniss, 90, of Clinton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, July 9, 2014. He was born September 13, 1923 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Joe L. Cabaniss, Sr. and Ocie Pearl (Jones) Cabaniss. Dale married Maxie Lee (Wells) Cabaniss on March 7, 1942 in Cordell and together they raised four children, Carolyn, Judy, Roger, and Nola. He was the owner/operator of Cabaniss T&M Termite & Pest Control in Clinton for 29 years before retiring in 1993. Dale was a member of First Christian Church of Clinton. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, attending the Jamboree, playing his fiddle, and watching the Oklahoma City Thunder. Dale was known for growing pecan trees and tree grafting. Dale loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxie Lee Cabaniss of 67 years; two daughters, Carolyn Cabaniss and Nola Cabaniss; two brothers, Doyle Cabaniss and Joe Cabaniss; and four sisters, Pansy Sarks, Dorotha Shepherd, Delores Parkinson, and Winnona Trout. Dale is survived by his daughter, Judy Stehr and husband Darrell; his son, Roger Cabaniss and wife Connie; seven grandchildren, Tami Steele and husband Dan of Falls Creek, PA, Tina Challis and husband Ricky, Deedra Vice and husband Shane of Norman, Paul Warner and wife Karen of Toledo, OH, Brennon Stehr, Rodney Cabaniss and wife Jennifer, and Jeremy Cabaniss and wife Lissy; fourteen great grandchildren, Dr. Cale Challis and his wife Darcie of Oklahoma City, Chaillie Challis of Lawton, Kevin Wheelden and his wife Kendra of Indiana, PA, Dalton and Brant Vice of Norman, Austin Steele of Falls Creek, PA and Ben Steele and his wife Krupa of Quantico, VA, Aleksi, Reagan, Morgandee, and Halle Cabaniss, Kennedy McKeaigg, and Madi and Luke Brown; and three great-great grandchildren, Joey, Gavin, Lexi Steele, and one on the way, Grace Challis. Dale is also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Cabaniss and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for will be from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 and 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2014 with the family present to receive friends Sunday from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services for Dale will begin at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2014 at the First Christian Church of Clinton officiated by Terrill Mitchell with interment following at the Clinton Cemetery.
