Funeral Services for Lewis Carter, 83, Clinton resident will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, September 24, 2022, in the Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home officiated by his son, Elder Charles Smith.
Lewis Carter “LC”, entered into the loving arms of our Lord on September 18, 2022 at the age of 83. He was born on August 9, 1939, to Frank Carter and Gertrude Taplin. Lewis was raised by his mother Gertrude and bonus dad Steve Ray, Jr. Lewis attended public schools in the Texas and Oklahoma School Districts. Lewis was the oldest of twelve children. Lewis was raised in Bryan and College Station, TX. He was married to Ophelia Moore on July 15, 1990, in Texola, OK. He attended the Bethany Baptist Church; he enjoyed music and riding motorcycles.
Everyone affectionately called him “LC” He loved working with his hands. He was truly an artist at heart. From owning and operating a mechanic shop which led to a paint and body shop that produced custom paint jobs. He was a jack of all trades from setting fences, painting houses, installing roofs to flooring and so much more. He was also very stylish, he had a love for exotic boots, hats and belt buckles. LC had a very kind heart and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He never met a stranger. He loved life and the excitement that came with it. He left his mark on the community and touched so many lives in a positive and uplifting way. He loved others completely, without judgment.
LC is preceded in death by his father Frank Carter, his mother Gertrude Ray, bonus father Steve Ray, Jr., his brother, George Huddlen, and sisters Francis Daniels, Mamie Ray, Lillian Collins, and uncle Ollie Taplin.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Ophelia, children, Doris Baker-Harris, Michelle (Kathy) Carter-Porter, Averil Carter, all of Houston, Tx and Charles (Tonya) Smith (Elk City); grandchildren, La’Trice Carter, Sharmon Baker, Michael (Shaquana) Campbell, Donte’ Campbell all of Houston, Tx, Keiyon Smith, Keyshaun (Kaitlin) Smith, Keenan Smith, Kylee Smith (Elk City); great-grandchildren: Shamyra Baker, Zion Campbell, Lyndon Baker, all of Houston, Tx and Quincy Smith (Elk City); brothers and sisters: Travis (Vernice) Ray (OKC), Leon (Karen) Ray (AZ), Steve (Dian) Ray, Harmon (Michelle) Ray, Jimmy (Alison) Ray, Helen (Tracy) Bennett, Lucille (Johnny) Pierce, all of Oklahoma City (OKC); brother-in-law H. B. Collins (Clinton); a special aunt, Hattie Talpin (Clinton); cherished companion: Patricia Carter; eleven bonus grandchildren, numerous bonus great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends as well as the Burns Flat, Clinton, Elk City and surrounding communities.
