(Kliewer) was born December 24, 1918 to P.A. and Ann (Becker) Kliewer in Fairview, Oklahoma and passed away at 5:00 A.M., her normal wake-up time, Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in the Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Oklahoma. This time she awoke in Heaven in the arms of her precious Lord and Savior. Luella's young life started in Fairview, Oklahoma. A time during war with Germany and families had to depend on each other. She had to learn to work hard at a young age, helping her family as well as others. The family spoke in Low German which sometimes make it difficult at that time. She starter school when she was six years old at Fairland School which was a rural school near Fairview. Luella's family moved to Western, Kansas when she was eight years old. The family settled on a farm near Ulysses, Kansas. The Lone Tree School was at least five miles away but she continued school there. A new School named Spring Valley was built in their community and she finished her eighth grade there. She began working for wages when she was 13 years old and by the time she was 16 she was working 16 to 18 hours a day for $2.00 per week. She had learned to work for local irrigation farmers, along with six hired men. She wanted more schooling but had to move to Hillsboro, Kansas so she work and payed her own way thru school. She worked in an overall factory while attending an Academy at Tabor College in 1935 and 1936. She went to live with her Uncle who was a missionary on Post Oak Mission in Indianhoma, Ok in 1938-39. She worked and taught Indian students about music and taking them to competitions to compete. She was able to graduate from Cashe High School in Cashe, OK in 1940. She moved to California soon after her high school graduation along with her brothers and sisters, working at several jobs. She wanted to become a school teacher and returned to Tabor College and in 1943 she earned enough hours to receive her emergency teaching certificate and began teaching at Pleasant Hill School in Meade, Kansas. She was married to Pete Pauls on June 16, 1946. They made their first home on a farm south of Meade Lake in Meade County, KS. After they quit farming they made their homes in numerous Kansas Communities where they both worked in various capacities including teaching, cooking, Tupperware sales and nurse's aide. They retired and in July of 1980 they moved to Corn, OK. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and eleven brothers and sisters: John Paul Kliewer, baby Jacob, baby Samuel, toddler Helena, Susan Ratzlaff, Henry Kliewer, Albert (Bert) Kliewer, baby Marie, Edna Kliewer, Leonard Kliewer and Archie Kliewer. She has been faithful follower of Christ and this faith has been a wonderful example to her family, friends and the congregation of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church where she was an active member. In younger days she loved working in her yard and garden and enjoyed sharing their fruits with others. As an independent resident of Corn Heritage Village, she enjoyed the interaction she had with all of her dear friends there and she shared her creative passions with them on the many interesting and clever bulletin boards that she decorated over the years. She is survived by two sons, Eugene Pauls and wife, Sherry, of Corn, OK and Dennis Pauls and wife, Pat of Wichita, KS, and daughter, Vickie Kenton and husband, Randy, of Leavenworth, KS. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
