Funeral Services for Mary Ellen Bates, 90, Custer City resident will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 6, 2015 in the Frist Christian Church, Custer City, OK officiated by Doyle Kinney. Burial will follow in the Custer City Masonic Cemetery in Custer City, OK under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Mary Ellen Rolison Bates was born December 17, 1925 to William and Rhoada May (Sessions) Rolison in Custer City, OK and passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 in the Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford, OK. Mary Ellen was raised in the Custer City area and she attended the Red Rock Country School, Custer City School and graduated from Clinton High School in 1943. She continued her education at the Chickasha School for Women, graduating with a bookkeeping degree. She soon got a job with the Southwestern Oklahoma State College (now Southwestern Oklahoma State University) in Weatherford, OK. She became the main bookkeeper and retired after 23 years of service. She was married to Eldon Bates on May 4, 1975 in Weatherford. They farmed West of Custer City until his death. She was a member of the Custer City First Christian Church, She was an avid reader and spend much of her time reading the Bible, and she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crocheting and enjoyed music and playing the piano. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eldon who passed in 2002 and two sisters, Kathryn Province and Beatrice Thomas. She is survived by two sisters, Rose Patocka and husband, Willard, of Enid and Billie Lax and husband, Leon, Clinton; her extended family, Bob and Becky Weathers, Custer City and their son, Justin and his son, Nicholas, of Weatherford, OK. He is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
