Mary Mahone Hohmann

November 15, 1941 — June 17, 2015

Mary Mahone Hohmann (nee McCoy), age 73, of Del City, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor, passed away peacefully June 17th in her home, surrounded by family. She was born November 15th, 1941 in Clinton, Oklahoma to the late Edward Herrin "Jack" and Mary Eugenia McCoy. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1959 and attended the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and received a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences in 1963. She married Roger Cook, who was employed by the military. Mary pursued graduate studies in Texas, California, Florida and Thailand and worked as a speech-language pathologist. Mary and Roger divorced and she later married Bob Hohmann, living in Iran for several years prior to the revolution. Mary and Bob eventually divorced and Mary settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she studied martial arts and taught yoga as a certified instructor and worked as a speech/language pathologist for 30 years. Her area of expertise was teaching vital communication to homebound students. For seven of her Florida years she lived on a sailboat, which she sailed in the Bahamas in the summer. In 2012 she relocated to Oklahoma City to care for her mother and sister Sue Ella. Mary's was a very full life of learning, family, travel, animals and adventure. She was an important counselor and mother figure to her deceased sisters' children. She generously supported many worthwhile causes and avidly worked to rescue abandoned animals. Mary is survived by her sister Jane Good of Athens, Ohio, nieces Emily Good of Carbondale, Colorado, Jana Baldwin of Lakewood, Colorado and Sarah Pope of Concord, New Hampshire and nephews Michael Cecil of Elk City, Oklahoma and Jon England of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her father Edward (Jack) McCoy, mother Mary Gene McCoy (nee Mahone) and her sisters Nancy England and Sue Ella Cecil. Mary will be missed by so many whose lives she touched and who treasured her wit, intelligence, warmth and strength. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday July 14 in the Oklahoma Room of the Oklahoma Bank & Trust, 603 Gary Blvd. in Clinton.
