Funeral services for Max Watan, Jr., 75, Weatherford resident will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 21, 2019 in the Cheyenne/ Arapaho Community Building, officiated by Rev. Sophia Big Goose and Rev. Gerald Panana. Burial will follow in the Colony Indian Cemetery, Colony, OK under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. A Traditional All Night Wake Service will be held 7:00 P.M., Wednesday in the Community Building. Max Watan, Jr. was born November 18, 1943 to Max Watan, Sr. and Lydia Rachel (Haury) Watan in Concho, OK and passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 in his Weatherford home. Max was raised and started school in Colony and later graduated from Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964 serving a stint in Vietnam and served a total of eight years and was discharged in 1970 as an E-5. He married Dorene Walter on November 7,1967 in Seiling, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Seiling and Colony where he did farm labor. In 1977 he moved to Wyoming and began his Evangelistic works. Max traveled all over the Northwest evangelizing, physically building churches as far north as Canada and Alaska. In 1986 he settled back in Oklahoma living in Weatherford. Max was presently a member of a denominational church. He was an accomplished artist, built tee-pees; bead work, leather work; was an accomplished musician, he could play most instruments by ear. He was a member of the Cheyenne/Arapaho Color Guard, Oklahoma Intertribal Vietnam Veterans; Northwest Chapter of Vietnam Veterans; American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Wounded Warriors. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Capacine Watan, two grandsons, Christopher Sage and Singing Bird Watan; two brothers, Thomas Allen Watan and Sterling Watan; four sisters, Lorraine Armstrong, Laverne Lime, Mary Belle Lone Bear and Minnie Alice Warden. Max is survived by his wife, Dorene of the home, six children, Chereesa Watan, El Reno, OK, Max Watan, III, Weatherford, Michael Watan, Geary, Aprill Watan, Federal Way, Washington, Ruben Watan, Yukon, TuSheena Watan, of the home and 3 adopted Children Julia Tartsah, Jissena Mott, and Terry Battiest. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
