Melba Jean Friesen

Funeral services for Melba Friesen, 88, lifelong Corn resident will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 28, 2016 in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church, officiated by Rev. Tim Sandy. Burial will conclude in the Corn Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Melba Jean Friesen was born June 12, 1927 to David D. "D.D." Reimer and Martha (Friesen) Reimer in Corn, Oklahoma and passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016 in the Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Oklahoma. Mrs. Friesen was raised in the Corn area and graduated from Corn High School in 1945. She married Paul Friesen on April 8, 1947 in Corn. She worked a short time for the Corn Public Schools. She spent the next 54 years working side by side with her husband, in the Corn Hardware and Variety Store. She also served as the Corn Heritage Village Social Director for over 16 years and also served as Museum Coordinator for over 25 years. When she was not doing one of her other duties she was helping her husband farm. She was a long time faithful and active member of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church; she was always available do what was needed to help the church function and grow, she spent time writing and directing children's Musicals and sang in the Senior Choir. She was a proud citizen of Corn community and had served on numerous committees and worked on countless projects and events. She was preceded in death her parents, her husband, Paul on May 4, 2016, four sisters, Erna Friesen, Edna Ratzlaff, Lydia Reimer, Martha Ann Kliewer and two brothers, Herb Reimer and Harvey Reimer. She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Block and husband, Jim, Keller, TX; two sons, Larry Friesen, San Francisco, CA and Greg Friesen and wife, Lisa, Weatherford. She is also survived by five grandchildren Jeff Block, Keller, TX, Noelle French, McCloud, OK, Brandon Friesen, and wife, Leah, Kingfisher, Brittany Friesen, Yukon and Nicholas, Weatherford, OK; and 8 great-grandchildren. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Corn Heritage Village for their residents activity fund.
