Funeral Services for Oveta J. Whiteshirt-Lira, 52, Clinton resident will be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, September 12, 2013 in the Cheyenne/Arapaho Community Hall officiated by Rev. Frank Kauahquo. Burial will follow in the Clinton Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. A Traditional Wake service will be held 7:00 till 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Oveta Joba Whiteshirt-Lira was born April 16, 1961 to John and Theodora (Pendleton) Whiteshirt in Dallas, TX and passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 in the Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Oveta was raised and graduated from High School in Dallas, TX. She moved to Watonga, OK where she was employed with Dan Webber Law Firm. She moved to Clinton and was employed with the Legal Aid office in 2002. She continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK where she graduated with honors in 2012. While attending Southwestern She was employed with Cheyenne/Arapaho Tribal College. Following graduation she worked for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes serving as coordinator for the Elderly Nutrition Center in Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Cheneya Ann Whiteshirt, a sister, Gail Whiteshirt, grandson, Trevor Rae Whiteshirt and her grandparents, Jennie (Black) and Frank Pendleton. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; a proud and active member of the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribes; she participated in Cheyenne Sun Dance, pow wows and dances; she served as president of the H.O.P.E Indian Club at Oklahoma Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She is survived by a son, Elijah Whiteshirt, of Clinton and a daughter, Jennie Whiteshirt, Oklahoma City, OK; five grandchildren and the Hoffman family.
