Owen Bruce Tharp

A Memorial Service for Owen Bruce Tharp, 73, Custer City resident will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 5, 2015 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Buck Nicholson. Bruce passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 in the South Pointe Rehab and Care Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Bruce was born November 26, 1940 to Russell Stanley Tharp and Helen Unity (Evans) Tharp in Elk City, Oklahoma and passed away November 10, 2014 in the South Pointe Rehab and Care Center in Oklahoma City, OK He was raised in Custer City, OK and graduated from Custer City High school in 1958. He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. He was married to Skeets Hamlin in 1963 in Bunch, OK and they made their home back in Custer City on the family farm. He has farmed most of his adult life as well working for Circle S Paving, owning and operating a backhoe service and doing custom harvesting for over 26 years. He later married Helen Jo (Phillips) Heintz on March 10, 1995 in Ft. Smith, AR and they made their home on the Custer City farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Elizabeth Miller, Sonya Miller and a brother, A.J. Tharp. He was a member of the Methodist Church; he enjoyed doing leather work; reading westerns; astronomy; playing the guitar and the piano. He is survived by his wife, Helen Jo, of the home and their five children. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren two great-grandchildren and numerous other cousins and family members. The family has suggested those wanting to give a memorial contribution may do to the Clinton's Mission House.
