Peggy Jayne McCarty passed from this life on March 6, 2017 in Elk City, OK at the age of 81. Peggy was born on December 26, 1935 in Springdale, Arkansas to Stanley and Ivus Somerville. Peggy grew up in Rogers, Arkansas and graduated from Rogers High School. She loved the Rogers area and often talked about "home". She lived most of her adult life in the Hugo and Rattan Oklahoma area. She had lived the last three years in Butler, OK. Peggy married W.M. "Bill" Houchen on May 18, 1954 and together they raised 4 children: Cheryl, Shelly, Kent and Cindy. She later married Guy McCarty, who preceded her in death. Peggy was a store clerk, most recently at Arpealers in Rattan, and former store manager for Bell Gas Company. She enjoyed visiting with her customers. She also enjoyed watching the Arkansas Razorbacks in whatever sport, reading, cooking and gardening. She loved her faithful companion "furbaby", Pandi. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Ivus Somerville; husband, Guy McCarty; sisters, Dorothy Somerville and Donna Somerville Robinson; brother Leslie Somerville; daughter Cindy Carper; and son Kent Houchen. Peggy is survived by daughters Cheryl McLaughlin and husband Jimmy of Butler, OK and Shelly Pinkston and husband Shawn of Rattan, OK; Sisters-in-law Linda Somerville of Rogers, AR and Jean Forbus of Messer, OK; Brothers-in-law David Houchen and wife Carol of Trenton, TX and Kenneth Houchen and wife Janet of Claremore, OK; Daughter- in-law Becky Houchen of Rattan OK; Grandchildren Shane McLaughlin and wife Shelby of Butler, OK, Amber Jeffrey and husband Cody of Butler, OK, Jason Pinkston and fiance, Angelena of Rattan, OK, Jalyn Pinkston of Hartshorne, OK, Christy Houchen of Hugo, OK, Shay Houchen of Rattan, OK, and Stana Carper of Rattan, OK; Great Grandchildren Dacey, Jalie, Rowdy, Brielle, Gracie, Mariyah, Jayah, Jada, Daylyn, Karsyn, Emery, and Xadin. Peggy is also survived by numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Kiesau Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, OK. Mrs. McCarty will be laid to rest at the Butler Cemetary in Butler, OK.
