A Chapel Service for Richard Crawford, 83, Clinton resident will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by Deacon Bill Hough. Burial will follow in the St. Frances Cemetery in Canute, OK under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
Richard Carroll Crawford was born October 18, 1938, to Austin Crawford and Lea Mae (Cotton) Crawford in Elk City, OK and passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022, in the Arbor House in Mustang, OK.
Richard was raised in Elk City, OK and graduated from Elk City High School in 1957. He married Jeanette M. Spitz on October 22, 1961, in Canute, OK. In October of 1962 they made Clinton their home. He was employed by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT). He retired as office manager of the Division V Headquarters south of Clinton in 1999.
He had obtained his associate degree in Civil Technology from the Oklahoma Technical Institute in Oklahoma City, OK. He continued to complete his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK.
Soon after his retirement he did inspections on construction projects for Jim Cobb of Cobb Engineering and Gene Myers of Myers Engineering. He was the District V Director of Oklahoma Public Employees Association, and he received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church; past member of the Evening Lions Club, OEPA, and a member of the Clinton Round Up Club. He enjoyed working with horses along with his children. He had a passion for his grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with them and supporting them in their sporting events.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jeanette M. (Spitz) Crawford, parents, Austin and Lela Mae Crawford and his father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Margarete Spitz, brother-in-law, Minard McAdams and a granddaughter, Ali.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis Crawford and wife, Carala, Craig Crawford and wife, Traci, daughter Christie Crawford and brother Pete Crawford and wife Diana of Yukon, OK.
He is also survived by grandson, Tyler, three granddaughters, Brittany and husband Chance, Peyton and Brynlee and two great grandsons, Rhett and Riggs Smith.
