Robert Eugene Hummel was born April 14, 1930 to Rueben Dell and Anise Edith (Wyncoop) Hummel in El Dorado Kansas. He attended school in El Dorado and was the Captain of his high school football team. He enlisted in the United States Navy with the rank of Airman May 21,1948. He was stationed in San Diego California and served on the USS Valley Forge. He was Honorably Discharged May 8, 1954. He met Barbara Jean Smith on a spur of the moment blind double date. They married in Harrison,Arkansas September 27,1953. They had 2 daughters, Sherry Elaine and Toni Terisa, Bob worked as an electrician serving as General Foreman on many of his assignments. He was a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 50 years. His work sometimes took him out of state, working in Missouri, Indiana and Illinois. He decided to take early retirement and Bob and Barbara retired in Mountain Home Arkansas. Bob loved to fish, golf and bowl. He was on several bowling teams in Mountain Home. His greatest enjoyment was growing any kind of plant, indoors or outdoors. While they lived in Newton Kansas he had an extensive African Violet collection and propagated many plants from cuttings. He was especially fond of the rose bushes he grew. He took great pride in his yard plants; he was always looking for a new plant. Bob was very handy and could do or fix anything so it was no surprise that another passion of his was wood working and remodeling the homes we lived in. Mom always said she wouldn't know how to live if she wasn't living in sheetrock dust. He would say, "I can fix anything but the crack of dawn and the break of day.: He made both daughters several things but the project he enjoyed the most was our Adirondack chairs with matching stools. Another great enjoyment for him was his dogs. Daddy had dogs as a child. He told us many times how he was always 'finding' a dog and bringing it home. He said he would ask his mother, "Can I keep him mom, PLEASE! He followed me home!" She would always let him keep the dog, probably because he was the baby of the family and could really put on that cute wistful face! Adulthood was no different and we always had dogs in our home and do to this day. Maggie, his Brittany Spaniel, was one of his many favorites and when he came to CCH he gave her to Justin. She has bonded with Justin and will always have a home with us. Bob really enjoyed visiting with any and everybody. Anywhere he went he never met a stranger and could make a friend immediately. If you went with him on an errand you never knew when you would get back because he would invariably meet someone he knew and visit with them for great lengths of time. In June 2017 he suffered a massive stroke. Sherry and Toni moved him and their mother from Mountain Home to Cordell Oklahoma to the Cordell Christian Home. As Sherry is the Administrator she was able to see them nearly every day. Toni was able to visit them frequently also. They received excellent care from the staff at CCH and made themselves at home. August 20, 2017 our Lord and Savior called our beloved husband, daddy and Grandpa Bob home to heaven while under the tender care of the Cordell Christian Home staff and Faith Hospice. Although we are heartbroken we are rejoicing for him also. Bob is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Barbara of Cordell, daughter Sherry (Reid) and son-in-law Justin Richardson of Clinton and daughter Toni Munday of Oklahoma City; grandson Josh Classen and his wife Tiffany; great grandsons Charles Reid and Conner James Classen of Houston Texas; granddaughter Jessica (Classen) and her husband Adam Yohn, great granddaughter Harley JoLynn Reid Yohn, great grandsons Ayden Wyatt and Jaxon Todd Yohn of Panama City Beach Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister who died in infancy, Carl and Carla, four sisters Velma Betty, Thelma Elder, Irene French and Esther McCloud and two brothers Mervin Hummel and Harry Hummel and Son-in-law Michael Reid. The family has suggested those wanting to give a memorial contribution may to do to the Cordell Christian Home, 1400 College, Cordell, Oklahoma 73632 or Faith Hospice, 1717 Main Street, Weatherford, OK 73096.
