Funeral Services for Roy Bates, 50, former Custer City resident and now of Oklahoma City will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 2, 2020 in the Cheyenne/Arapaho Community Building, officiated by Pastors, Gerald panama, Ron Starr and Ramus Hicks. Burial will follow in the Clinton Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. A traditional all night wake service will be held Sunday, March 1, 2020 in the Community Building. Roy Holly Bates was born May 19, 1969 to Charles C. Bates and Louisa J. (Starr) Bates in Clinton, Oklahoma and passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 in the Corn Heritage Nursing Home in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Roy was raised in Custer City and graduated from Custer High School in 1988. He has done numerous day labor jobs in this area and he has been a caregiver to the elderly. He was a member of the Mennonite Church, he was a proud member and was traditional member of the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma; he loved going to powwows, Native American singing, he loved kids and enjoyed traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beatrice Bates. He is survived by two brothers, Ronald, Kaulay and wife, Ruth, Elk City, Oklahoma and Cornelius Bates and wife, Janel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and considered them numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
