A Chapel service for Roy "Mert" Creswell, 79, Clinton resident will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel officiated by Rev. Earl Stephenson . Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Roy Marvin "Mert" Creswell was born February 10, 1936 to C.E. Creswell and Vivian (Lott) Creswell in Hargill, TX and passed away early Saturday, November 7, 2015 in the Weatherford Regional Hospital in Weatherford, OK. "Mert" was raised in the Valley in Texas until he was 7 years old and then he moved with his family to Rotan, TX where he attended part of his schooling and the family moved again to Snyder, TX where he attended school through his Junior year. Along with a cousin he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 on the buddy system. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1957 at the rank of Sergeant. He attended barber school and opened a barber shop in Snyder, TX. He was married to Viola Rose Roemisch on August 16, 1958 in Snyder, TX. They made their first home in Snyder where he continued to barber. In 1965 the family moved to Hobbs, NM and then settled in Clinton in 1978 where he worked in the oil field. He was forced to medically retire in 2007. He was a member of the Clinton Round Up Club and loved the trail rides; he was a Hub City Square Dancer, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping out; he enjoyed woodworking; singing has always been a passion, when he was only nine years old he sang in a trio and they were invited to Dallas, TX on several occasions to sing with the Stamps Quartet. He has enjoyed singing with family through the years at different family functions. In his younger years he enjoyed playing soft ball with the church league. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Pat Edwards, and a brother Bud Creswell. He is survived by his wife, Viola of the home, two daughters, Paula Mayes and husband, Steve, Hobbs, NM, and Marla Ashmore and husband, David, Broken Arrow, OK and two sons, Steve Creswell and wife, Connie, Elk City, OK and John Creswell and wife, Toni, Weatherford, OK. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Kara Grantham and husband, Clay, Granite Shoals, TX, Brandon Mayes, Las Cruces, NM, Kyle Mayes and wife, Kimberley, Hobbs, NM, Ashley Creswell, Clinton, Shae Creswell, Yukon, OK, Erica Creswell, Weatherford OK., Derek Creswell and wife, Rachel, Weatherford, Dillon Travis, Mannford, OK, Roxy Ashmore, and Haven Ashmore, both of Broken Arrow, OK; four great-grandchildren, Dayton, Harlee, Daron and Avery; a niece Vicki Norell and husband, David, Victoria, TX.
