A memorial service has been planned for 10:00am, Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Sand Springs Church of Christ officiated by Minister Elliott Dunn. Ruby LaVonne Schutes was born on February 3, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas to D.D. “Skeeter” and Ugie Schutes. She passed away in Sand Springs, Oklahoma and was called eternally home on October 28, 2019. LaVonne moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma in 1946 and graduated from Weatherford High School in 1962 where she was involved in marching band. She attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University before she moved to Oklahoma City and worked as a Secretary for an oil company. She moved back to Weatherford in 1983 to be closer to her family. She opened “The Brass Thimble” alteration shop and later worked for 3M. After her retirement from 3M she found a passion for retail and loved her job as a Supervisor at Stage in Weatherford. LaVonne moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma in 2015 to enjoy her retirement near her family. LaVonne had a love for the arts which she carried throughout her life in home décor, cooking, sewing and eventually painting. She became a painter after her 70th birthday and her treasures are displayed throughout the homes of her family. She was an amazing sister and loved spending time in her flowerbeds or surrounded by those she loved. Her love was not only for her family and friends but to a rescue dog named Lucy. LaVonne is survived by her siblings, Delvin Schutes and wife, Paulette, of Chander, Arizona, Jan Cantrell of Dewey, Oklahoma and Tricia Ray of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. A beloved aunt, “Aunt Bon”, is also survived by her nieces and nephews Deke Schutes and his wife, Patti, of Chandler, Arizona, Richelle Cantrell-Miller of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Dhea Hudson and her husband, Todd, of Owasso, Oklahoma, Destiny Mozingo and her husband, James, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Dustin Cantrell and his wife, J.J., of Dewey, Oklahoma and Timothy Ray and his wife, Rachel, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She is survived by her many great nieces and nephews who absolutely adored her and will always remember the sparkle in her smile. She is proceeded in death by her parents D.D. “Skeeter” and Ugie Schutes, sister-in-law, Rhea Schutes, brother-in-law, Bob Cantrell, and brother-in-law Tim Ray. She was a faithful servant to our Lord and a member of the Church of Christ
