Scott Curtis Sumpter

December 8, 1957 — August 5, 2023

Funeral Services for Scott Sumpter, Clinton resident will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by Pastor Delfred “Bunny” Whitecrow. The burial will conclude in the Clinton Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.


A Traditional Wake Service will be held 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 8, 2023, in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.


Scott Curtis Sumpter, 65, began his journey to the big Cheyenne camp on August 5, 2023, in Clinton after a lengthy illness. He was born December 8, 1957, to Colleen Rhoads Sumpter and Curtis Sumpter.


Scott grew up in El Reno and Clinton Oklahoma. He attended both El Reno High School and Clinton High School. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1976. In 1984 he relocated to Reno, Nevada. Throughout his time in Nevada, he worked on construction and roofing. He traveled Indian Country and played fastpitch softball and basketball and made many friends throughout the United States.

He also picked up the craft of being a cowboy where he attended ropings and brandings.


He enjoyed sharing his craft with anyone. He coached various youth and high school basketball and softball teams. He loved powwows, gourd and war dancing. He was a Golden State Warriors Fan and would talk NBA with you whenever he could.


He is survived by spouse Janet Davis of the home, daughter Tyler A. Sumpter, Austin Flores and granddaughter Kya Flores of La Push, WA, daughter Keri Romo of Nixon, Nevada, Chops his dog,

son, Justin Sumpter and grandsons Kingston and Raleigh of Oklahoma City, daughter Melissa Sumpter of Kansas, siblings Dena Fanning of El Reno, Caroline Rhoads and Mitchell Sumpter of Clinton, and Kathryn Cometsevah of Oklahoma City, niece Brienne Sumpter of Oklahoma City, nephews Marshall Franklin of Yukon, Christopher Sumpter of Colorado, and Sean Sandlin of Clinton.

Preceded in death by grandparents Isaac and Sophia Goodblanket Rhoads, Scott and Eloise Sturm Sumpter, parents, Curtis Sumpter, Colleen Rhoads Cometsevah and Laird Cometsevah Jr., brothers, Frank Goodbear and Elgin Rhoads, Butch Everett Power, sister-in-law Linda Rhoads, son, Jon Paul Sumpter, nieces, Sondra Rhoads, Marisa Tiger and Feather Campuzano, favorite horse Super Dave, and favorite dog, Max.
