Terry Nickel

Terry James Nickel, a dedicated farmer and beloved family man, passed away on October 6, 2024, in Safford, Arizona. Born on December 11, 1946, in Clinton, Oklahoma, Terry led a life characterized by hard work, simplicity, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

A proud graduate of the Custer City High School class of 1965, Terry went on to serve his country by joining the United States Army in June of 1970, where he served until his honorable discharge in June of 1973, after which he continued to serve in the Army Reserves. His military service was a testament to his commitment to his country and community.

Terry lived a simple yet fulfilling life as a farmer until 2016, during which he found joy in working the land and raising animals. He was an active participant in supporting the 4-H livestock shows, taking pride in nurturing young farmers and their projects. His love for agriculture was deeply ingrained in him, shaping not only his career but also his values and the way he raised his family.

In addition to his work, Terry treasured the times spent with his loved ones. He enjoyed holidays filled with laughter and memories shared with family, proving that it is the people around us who make life meaningful. Terry also cherished moments spent with his friends, showcasing his very friendly nature that endeared him to many.

Terry is survived by his daughter, Tara Lynn Schindler, and her husband, Robert Schindler. He was a devoted grandfather to Brett Cohorn, James Schindler, Steven Schindler, and Karee Schindler, and a proud great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

He was preceded in death by his father Andy Nickel, his mother Margie Nickel, his brother Elmer Nickel, and his grandson Brandon Cohorn. Each of these individuals held a special place in Terry's heart, and their memories will continue to live on through those who remain.

As we remember Terry Nickel, we celebrate a life lived with kindness, dedication, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who carry forward his legacy of friendship and community spirit.

Graveside Services for Terry will be 10:00 AM, Friday, October 18, 2024 in the Custer City Masonic Cemetery, Custer City, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
