Vera L. Peters was born April 10, 1921, in Cement, OK, and departed this life in Clinton, OK, for her heavenly home July 15, 2019, at the age of 98. After living in Cheyenne, OK, where her father died, the family later moved to the Dempsey/Meadowbrook community where Vera attended a two-room school and graduated from Reydon, OK, Highschool in 1938. As a child of the dustbowl and the Great Depression she developed a strong work ethic and the ability to "make do" as necessary. She married Jodie L. Peters in 1939 and they became loving parents to two daughters. In 1953 they left the farm and moved to Elk City and to then later to Clinton in 1960. She was an active member of the Nazarene Church in Cheyenne, Elk City, and Clinton; always involved in children's and music ministries and whatever needed to be done in the church including cleaning and redecorating parsonages. In later years she attended and supported the Cornerstone Church of God as long as her health permitted. She was an excellent wife, mother, and friend and set a wonderful Christian example. After the girls were older, she worked at Brooks Fabric Store and then as a cook for the Clinton Junior High and many will remember her later as the Nance Elementary School secretary who helped many children. She was preceded in death by parents Dona Austin Lackey and Frank Jackson King, her husband Jodie who died on her birthday in 1997, sisters Sula King Pennington Anderson, Rosa King Howell Heard and a son-in-law W. R. Bob Gosdin. She is survived by her brother Franklin J. King and family of Harrison, TN daughters Jonita Hall and husband George of Oklahoma City, and Dana Osborn and husband Terry of Clinton. She took great pride in her two grandchildren Chad Kinder and wife Gayla of Arapaho, OK and Kasey Barton and husband Brandon of Weatherford, OK. and step-grandson Andrew Hall and wife Mary Helen of Dallas, TX and two step great-granddaughters, Angela Tucker and family and Tara Witherspoon and family both of Yukon, OK. Her great joy was the birth of her great-grandchildren and she felt fortunate to live nearby Natalie and Carson Kinder, Benjamin and Hannah Badgett, Mary Isabel Hall and Morgan Barton. Vera will be remembered fondly by her nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends as a caring and sharing woman of great faith. Services will be held July 22, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, 1900 Lexington Av in Clinton, OK. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Cornerstone Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
